Peter Meineck PhD is an Associate Professor of Classics at New York University . He has had parallel careers in the professional theatre as a producer and director and academia. He founded Aquila Theatre in 1991 which is now regarded as one of the leading classical theatre troupes in the United States. He has also directed several public programs, most recently, "YouStories.com" a performance based humanities program that uses ancient literature to connect members of the veteran community with the public via social media and live events. He has published widely on ancient drama, including cognitive approaches. Recent books include "Philoctetes" (Hackett Publishing 2014) and "Combat Trauma and the Ancient Greeks" edited with David Konstan (Palgrave 2014). He is currently working on "The Routledge Handbook of Classics and Cognitive Theory" with Esther Eidinow and a new book entitled "The Affective Theatre: The Cognitive Science of Greek Drama." In his spare time he serves as a Firefighter and EMT in the Bedford Fire Department in New York.
