Prof Mary Crane Mary Crane is the Thomas F. Rattigan Professor in the English Department at Boston College. She is the author, most recently, of Losing Touch with Nature: Literature and the New Science in Sixteenth-Century England (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2014) which argues that the development of the “new science” was felt in sixteenth-century England as a divergence of official scientific explanations from intuitive science, the powerful and tenacious understanding of the world based on embodied kinesthetic experience.
