John Savarese is an assistant professor of English Language and Literature at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, with interests in Romanticism, poetry and poetics, and the history and philosophy of science. He is currently writing a book entitled Romanticism’s Other Minds: The Science of Poetry from Hume to Mill, portions of which have appeared in ELH and Romantic Circles Praxis Series. The book examines how Romantic poetics mobilizes debates about the social mind, including those that explore the individual mind’s entanglements with bodies, technologies, and social environments. Essays on literature and cognitive science have also appeared in European Romantic Review and Romanticism and Victorianism on the Net. Before joining the faculty at Waterloo, he taught as an ACLS New Faculty Fellow at the University of California, Berkeley, as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Texas at Austin, and at Rutgers University, where he received his Ph.D. in 2012.
