Charlotte Lee is a University Lecturer in German at the University of Cambridge, and a Fellow of Murray Edwards College. She is the author of The Very Late Goethe: Self-Consciousness and the Art of Ageing (Oxford: Legenda, 2014). This examines the quality of memory, at once full and fragile, which is unique to old age, and which shapes Goethe’s last works. She has also co-edited of a special number of German Life and Letters, entitled ‘Embodied Cognition around 1800’ (forthcoming 2018), which examines alignments between intellectual activity in the long eighteenth century and the findings of modern cognitive science. Her current project, a study of the relationship between poetry and movement, takes inspiration from recent developments in cognitive approaches to literature.
